    How To Truly Understand What Faith Is.

    Text: Hebrews 11:1-3 NIV
    Heb 11:1-3

    11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

     (King James Version)

    "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (v. 2) For by it the elders obtained a good report, (v. 3) Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."

    Topic: Faith Is!

    The story is told of a tourist who came too close to the edge of the Grand Canyon, lost his footing and plunged over the side, clawing and scratching to save himself. After he disappeared out of sight; and, just before he fell into an open space, he stumbled upon a scrubby bush which he desperately grabbed with both hands. Filled with terror, he called out toward Heaven, "Is there anyone up there?"

    A calm, powerful voice came out of the sky, "Yes, there is." The tourist pleaded, "Can you help me?" The calm voice replied, "Yes, I probably can. What is your problem?" "I fell over the cliff and am dangling in space holding on to a bush that is about to let go," he replied. "Please help me!" The voice from above said, "I’ll try. Do you believe?" "Yes, yes, I believe," came the response. The voice from above said, "Do you have faith?" "Yes, yes, I have strong faith," came the reply. The calm voice said, "Well, in that case, simply let loose of the bush and everything will turn out fine." There was a tense pause, followed by the tourist yelling, "Is there anyone else up there?"

    It is one thing to talk about faith; but, it is quite another thing to act on faith! This morning, the Lord would have us discover what faith really is; and, how faith can help us in our struggle to be everything that we can be in Christ Jesus! What is faith? Well, there just isn’t any easy way to define faith! This morning as we engage our Holy Scripture text, we are going to look at six different statements that are derived from that text:

    (1) Faith is believing when we don’t see it;

    (2) Faith is obeying when we don’t understand it;

    (3) Faith is giving when we don’t have it;

    (4) Faith is persisting when we don’t feel like it;

    (5) Faith is thanking Almighty God before we receive it; and,

    (6) Faith is trusting Almighty God if we don’t get it!

    (1) Faith is believing when we don’t see it
    In the first verse of our text, Hebrews 11:1 (NLT), we read: "What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen. It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see." That sounds like a contradiction, doesn’t it? However, the Holy Bible – the written Word of Almighty God – teaches us that faith is visualizing the future in the present! It is being sure of what we do not see – it is seeing it in advance! Mankind says, "Seeing is believing," while Almighty God says: "Believing is seeing!"

    In 1960, the late great 35th President of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy (1917 – 1963), said, "Let’s put a man on the Moon by the end of the decade." When he made that statement, the technology for putting a man on the Moon had not yet been invented; however, some things have to be believed before we can see them! Just nine (9) years later, in 1969, American astronaut Neil Alden Armstrong (Born: 1930), became the first man ever to step foot upon the surface of the Moon.

    We have got to believe things in advance – everything that has ever happened in our lives was an impossibility before it became a reality; and, someone had to believe in it first! Faith is nothing more than trusting Almighty God to turn our dreams into reality! We have to have faith that it is going to happen in order for it to happen – we have to be certain that Almighty God can and will do these things in our lives!

    (2) Faith is obeying when we don’t understand it;
    The writer of Hebrews, in Hebrews 11:8 (NLT), tells us: "It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going." We all know the story, don’t we? How Abraham, living in the land of Ur, 75-years-of-age, is told by Almighty God that He is going to send him on a journey - not telling him the name of the place he was going – not telling him how far away the place is! The question becomes, "Would we go? Would you and I go?" Faith is obeying God when we don’t understand!

    There are many of us who want a guarantee of success before we try anything; however, Almighty God says: "NO!" Because faith always involves risks – Almighty God wants to force us to trust Him! When God says: "NO," faith is doing the right thing even when it seems absurd!

    (3) Faith is giving when we don’t have it;
    Did you know that giving and faith go hand in hand? They are "Inseparable Twins" – they simply go together! Almighty God uses finances to test our faith all the time! Tell me, "Have you ever made a decision whether to pay a bill or to tithe?" This is only a test – Almighty God is testing us to see how much we trust Him! We can either
    give by faith or we can give by fear!

    Giving by fear is when we say, "How much can I afford to give?" Giving by faith is when we say, "How much does Almighty God want me to give, whether I have got it to give or not?" It is one thing to give when we have money to spare – it is quite another to give when we don’t know where the money is going to come from when to pay the bills!

    (4) Faith is persisting when we don’t feel like it;
    Our modern-day culture says, "Base everything that you do on how you feel about it!" In other words, if you feel like doing it – do it; if you don’t feel like doing it – don’t do it! That, my brothers and sisters, is a guaranteed formula for immaturity – why? Because immature people build their lives on feelings rather than on commitments!

    When we live our lives based upon how we feel, we end up being manipulated by our moods - we flip-flop around because we feel different from moment to moment – from day to day – from month to month – from year to year! One of the marks of maturity is when we live our lives by commitments; and, not by feelings! If the truth be told, I don’t always feel like doing what is right – do you?

    I don’t always feel like being nice to people – I don’t always feel like spending time with my family – I don’t always feel like praying and reading Almighty God’s Word. The issue, however, is not what do we feel; but, do we do the right thing?

    The real key to success is that "successful people do what most people do not feel like doing! – successful people simply develop habits that unsuccessful people do not feel like developing – successful people utilize their time wisely, being persistent; and, sharpening their skills and "stuff" like that!

    The writer of Hebrews, in Hebrews 11:27 (NLT), tells us: "It was by faith that Moses left the land of Egypt, He was not afraid of the king, Moses kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the One who is invisible." Note that we can only accomplish the impossible when we see the invisible! If we keep our eyes upon Almighty God, He will give us the power to "keep on keeping on!"

    We need to use the Holy Bible to rediscover the faith of the Holy Bible! Faith under girds hope – hope is the promise that allows us to live in expectation of Eternal Life and all the blessings of Almighty God – purpose allows us to remain focused toward Eternal Life and all the blessings of Almighty God – perseverance teaches us to remain constant so that we can experience Eternal Life and all the blessings of Almighty God – and, prosperity is the reaping of the harvest! That, my brothers and sisters, is the blessing!

    (5) Faith is thanking Almighty God before we receive it; and,

    We need to thank Almighty God for receiving our blessing – even before we receive it – that is faith! If we wait to thank Him until we receive it – that is merely gratitude! Thank you Almighty God for answered prayer – before the answer comes!

    6) Faith is trusting Almighty God if we don’t get it!

    Finally, as I begin to close,
    faith is trusting Almighty God even if we do not get what we want! Almighty God always hears and answers every prayer – He does not always answer prayers the way that we want Him to answer! Sometimes His answer is "YES" – sometimes His answer is "NO" – and, sometimes, His answer is "WAIT!" Almighty God answers prayer in many, many different ways! He tells us "NO" because He loves us! Almighty God is not a vending machine – put a prayer in and get out whatever we want! Sometimes vending machines will give us "stuff" that will kill us! Almighty God only gives us what is for our benefit!

    In Hebrews, Chapter 11, in the "Faith Hall of Fame, we find a list of people who suffered for their faith – some of them got their heads cut off – some of them were burned at the stake – some of them had their eyes plucked out – some of them were drowned – and, my brothers and sisters all kinds of gruesome "stuff" happened to these people; yet, the Holy Bible – the written Word of God – tells us that they were "Heroes of Faith!"

    The point here, is that living by faith does not exempt us from problems! I know by experience that as a Christian true believer, I have the same problems that I had before I got saved! As Christian true believers, we have the same problems that sinners have – it is just that we now have a new power to help us deal with them! We now have a Comforter to help us cope – to handle the stress – as we deal with everyday living!

    Finally, as I sit down, this morning, know that we gain character when we go through tough times – they are the experiences that Almighty God allows to transform us into a person of integrity, a person of stability; and, a person of values! We only realize that Almighty God is all that we need when we discover that He is all that we have! Let’s start this New Year off with a bang – let’s establish a relationship with Jesus, the Christ – let’s be all that we can be in Christ Jesus – shall we?

    Faith Is!

    May Almighty God richly and abundantly bless each and every one of you!

    Warmest Regards

    Prisoner of Bitterness- Freed by Forgiveness

    Prisoner of "Bitterness" Freed by Forgiveness

    Hebrews 12:14-15 14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Has someone ever said or done something to you for which you found it difficult to forgive them? Every time their name is brought up, even if it was years ago, it still brings butterflies to your stomach. When you think of them, your heart rate go up. And you can feel your blood pressure rising when you think of what they said or did. It’s as though you were reliving it again, just thinking about it! If so, it may be that you are a prisoner of bitterness. Which is a shame…because bitterness doesn’t even touch the person you are bitter toward, but it sure will harm you, no exceptions. Like Frankenstein, bitterness is a monster which turns on its creator, and causes internal damage beyond compare.

    God’s Sustaining Grace

    "God‘s Sustaining Grace"

    To be an Olympic athlete you need three things going for you. You need: speed, skill and most important of all, you have to have endurance.   If you don’t make it to the end of the race, you’re not going to win a medal. The Bible Sustaining Gracetells us that God always finishes what He starts. In the book of Philippians it says: Phil 1:6 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Circle the word "will". This verse doesn’t say, God “might” finish it, it doesn’t say, God “hopes” to finish it.   This verse says God “will” finish it. What does that mean? It means if you have really given your life to "Jesus Christ" – if you’ve opened yourself up to God and said, "Christ, be number one in my life – be Lord of my life" – you are going to make it all the way to heaven.   There’s no doubt about it. Case closed! Done deal! Finished product! You are going to make it across the finish line.   Because the race does not depend upon your performance – it depends upon God’s Sustaining Grace. One question that is important, however, is: “How well do you finish the race?”   You know as well as I do that some people finish a race in very poor shape – while others finish the race well. In 1992, following five operations, British runner "Derek Redman" was hoping to in gold at the Barcelona Olympics.

    Derek Redmon

    Everything seemed to be going well for the 400 meter race. He had recorded the fastest time in the quarter-final heat. He was pumped up – ready to go.   As the gun sounded he got off to a clean start. But at 150 meters – his right hamstring muscle tore and he fell to the ground.   When he saw the stretcher-bearers rushing towards him he jumped up and began hobbling toward the finish line.
    Despite his pain he continued to move forward. Soon another person joined him on the track.   It was his father. Arm in arm – hand in hand – they moved toward the finish-line together.   Just before the finish line – Derek’s dad let go of his son – so that Derek could finish the race on his own.   The crowd of 65,000 stood to their feet cheering and clapping as Derek finished the race. Heartbreaking – yes! Encouraging – yes!   Emotional – yes! We need to finish the race – and finish it well. God who began a good work in you – wants you to finish the race. He wants you to endure. He wants you to be successful.   He wants you to finish and finish well.   God does not leave you to run the race alone but He gives you His Sustaining Grace. What is God’s Sustaining Grace?

    God’s Sustaining Grace is the power to keep you going even when you feel like giving up. Do you ever feel like throwing in the towel?   Do you feel like quitting? Do you ever say, “I’ve had enough. "God’s Sustaining Grace" is the power that helps you endure even when you don’t think you can. Here is a secret that I have learned: Life is a marathon – it is not a sprint. There are valleys and there are mountains.   There are bad times and there are good times and there are times when we could all use God’s Sustaining Grace to keep on – keeping on.   God’s Sustaining Grace is the power that God gives to keep you going.   I know of at least three times when we all need to seek God’s Sustaining Grace.

     Let’s look at them now: 1. I need God’s Sustaining Grace when I am TEMPTED. Temptation will happen to all of us. It will cause us to stumble. It will cause us to fall. In First Peter chapter five it says:    1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.   You may not realize this – but the moment you become a believer – the battle begins.   The Devil would enjoy nothing more than to see you stumble – to see you fail – to see you fall.

    When you become a believer you are no longer Satan’s property – you are no long on his side – but he wants to get you back.   He does not want you to succeed. He is looking for every opportunity to pounce on you. The Bible says all of us are tempted. I am tempted and so are you. We will never outgrow temptation.   Even Jesus was tempted. The Bible says that Jesus was tempted in all points like we are – but he never sinned.   Folks I don’t know about you – but when I am tempted I sure could use God’s Sustaining Grace.   Look with me at a passage of scripture from First Corinthians chapter ten: 1 Cor 10:13 13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. I want you to note two things from this passage: a. The temptation you are experiencing is common.   You are not in this alone. Other people are tempted in the same way as you are. b. God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can endure and He will make a way of escape. The way of escape may mean – change the channel. It may mean – run out the door.   It may mean – change the way you are thinking. It may mean – stop doing it.   It may mean – turn the computer off. But God will provide a way of escape – that is God’s promise – that is God’s Sustaining Grace. Also: 2. I need God’s Sustaining Grace when I am TIRED Sometimes I get tired. Life can be exhausting. It requires a lot of energy. It requires a lot of strength.

    Easy things are not always easy – are they?   Some-times we think something will take little time and little energy – but easy things sometimes consume most of our day.   Easy things are not always easy – and sometimes we get tired. It is at times like this that I need God’s Sustaining Grace. David wrote: Ps 28:7 The Lord  is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.   David relied on God for his strength. He trusted in Him. He put his faith in Him. And because of this fact – his heart rejoiced. In the New Testament we find: 2 Cor 1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. Go ahead and circle the words – “God of all comfort”. Isn’t that a wonderful title? Isn’t that a wonderful thought?

    When I need comforting – God is the God of all comfort.   He knows my trials. He knows my tribulations. He knows when I am exhausted. He knows when I am tired. Some people say, "It’s so hard to be a Christian!" That is true – if you don’t rely upon Jesus it is impossible.   He is the one who gives the Christian strength.   He is the one who gives the believer wisdom.   He is the one who will guide you and direct you.   He is the one who will give you rest in the midst of the storms of life.   He can give you the power you need when you need it – rely upon Him and rest in Him. Here another way God gives us His Sustaining Grace. Not just when I’m tempted and not just when I’m tired, but also: 3. I need God’s Sustaining Grace when I am TROUBLED The Bible tells us: Job 5:7 Yet man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. In other words – troubles are common. You should expect troubles in your life. You should not be surprised when they come your way.

    You are going to have difficulties – you are going to have obstacles. You will have situations that are out of your control.   You will have situations that you just cannot handle. It is at times like these that we need God’s Sustaining Grace. I have found that there are three kinds of trouble in this world. There is the kind that blows you away like a tornado.   There is the kind that weighs you down like a sack of potatoes.   Then there is the kind of trouble that pulls the rug out from under you.   But no matter what type of trouble you run into – God will give you His Sustaining Grace. Most of us can handle problems if we have hope – if we can see an end in sight – if we can see a light at the end of the tunnel.   If we can see that there is power to get through the problem – we can handle it. Hope is powerful. The Bible tells us: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) Folks this is a statement of hope. This is a promise that all believers can rely upon. No matter what comes my way – "I can do all things through Christ" because He "strengthens me".

    God gives His children sustaining grace to make it through all situations – through all circumstances – through all things.   In the Old Testament it says: Isa 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Go ahead and circle all the promises in this verse. God promises to be with us. He promises to strengthen us.   He promises to help us. He promises to hold us up. He is the God who sustains us. He is the God who gives His Sustaining Grace.

    How do I plug into God’s Sustaining Grace? You do three things: 1. ASK for God’s Sustaining Grace How do you ask? You ask through prayer. Pray to God. Pray earnestly. Pray fervently. Pray passionately.   Pray with integrity. Pray with emotion. Ask God for His Sustaining Grace. He loves to hear the prayers of His children. The Bible tells us: "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV) God gives His children the best – ask for it. Number two: 2. STUDY God’s word God’s word is to help guide us and direct us through good times and through bad. In Psalm one hundred nineteen we find: “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105 (NKJV) When we need guidance it is always good to turn to God’s Word.

    Let the Bible comfort you,  Let the Bible strengthen you, Let the Bible fill you, Let the Bible soothe you.   Think on God’s word. Place scriptures in your mind – think about them – meditate on them. They can be a great help when you are dealing with the stressors of life. Number three: 3. RELY on God’s promises Did you know that there are over 7000 promises in the Bible waiting to be claimed? Here is one of them: Isa 40:28-31 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord  is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the Lord  will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. God wants His children to be successful. He wants us to over-come this world.   He wants us to rely on His strength and His promises. God gives us all kinds of promises in His word – but it does no good unless we rely upon them.   We must trust in the Lord – we must put our faith into action – we must rely upon the fact that His promises are true.   Put your hope in the Lord. Keep your eyes focused on the hope of heaven.

    Folks a day is coming when there will be no more trials. A day is coming when there will be no more tribulation.   In heaven there will not be any problems. In heaven there will be no sorrow.   In heaven there will be no sadness – no grief – no grumbling – no messed up lives. God has promised us this – we need to rely on His promises. Let me ask you a question: “Where do you need God’s Sustaining Grace today?   Where are you discouraged and you feel like giving up? Are you being tempted?   Are you tired? Are you troubled? Are you at the end on your rope?”   Then let me tell you that God offers His Sustaining Grace to you. A long time ago a man by the name of Paul felt that he was at the end of his rope.   He had something going on in his life that he did not like and he begged the Lord three times to take it away from him.   Do you know what the Lord said when He answered Paul? The Lord said, 2 Cor 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."   Do you know what happened?   Paul found that the Lord spoke the truth – God’s Sustaining Grace was all he needed. God’s grace – got him through. How about you? Do you need God’s Sustaining Grace?

    The Doctrine of Separation Examined

    The Doctrine of Separation Examined

    There are so many destructive teachings that are simply corruptions of actual truth.  One of those is the doctrine of separation.  Practiced within the more independent and fundamental sects of Christianity, this doctrine is mainly derived from 2 Corinthians 6:17, " Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you…" The idea is that if one group does not agree with another in all areas, then association is considered sinful, or at least liberal.

    I personally believe that this has been taken way too far within the body of Christ.

    A few Sundays ago I was at a church where a missionary was speaking.  I really enjoyed hearing what he had to say.  What disappointed me was what was on his prayer card.  Listed on the back, in his statement of beliefs, was the "doctrine of separation."  However, during the message that he preached, he spoke of how it was good to be able to talk to a Charistmatic believer in Mongolia.  He spoke of how it was good, in a land that so few missionaries frequented, to find anyone to talk to that was a Christian.  But when it came to working together, that was a different story.

    Years ago, in 1992, I was given the opportunity to travel to Romania for a month.  Long story short, in order to do some first-time evangelical work in a small village, two other young guys and myself were priviledged to hire a young interpreter to help us.  Actually, he was helping a Pentecostal church group rebuilding grain silos during the day.  Because he was free in the evening, he helped us.  He even helped us make friends with the Pentecostal group.  We didn’t have services together, but we did get to have friendly contact.  Ultimately, because of this unplanned cooperation (the Church of God folk paid the interpreter for us) around 80 souls came to accept Christ as their Saviour in one week.

    When I got back to the U.S., thoughts crossed my mind about how Baptist missionaries could develope ways to work together with other Christian missionaries in third-world countries, especially where the work was great.  Pooling local resources and manpower for mutual benefit seemed something totally logical to me; but not to BIMI, the mission agency with which I had traveled.  Unlike Southern Baptist missionaries, independent Baptist missionaries have to raise their own funds to reach the field and to stay there.  To me it seemed that being able to work with other Christians to accomplish like goals was a no-brainer, but not according to the doctrine of separation which BIMI held true to, as do most independent Baptists with which I have been aquainted.

    The belief that Christians cannot work together, worship together, or evangelize together to reach a common desired goal is crazy.  There are areas that make Baptists (of which I am) different from other denominations, and rightfully so.  These differences, however, are more often than not of little eternal significance.  Baptists believe in baptism by submersion, for instance, while Presbyterians normally do not.  Is that worth saying that when it comes to winning the lost for Christ that we must remain separate in all things?  Even if a friend of mine is a five-point Calvinist, does that mean that I can’t walk down a street with him as we both preach salvation through Jesus alone?  I like what article XIV of the 2000 edition of the Baptist Faith and Message has to say on the subject:

    "Members of New Testament churches should cooperate with one another in carrying forward the missionary, educational, and benevolent ministries for the extention of Christ’s Kingdom.  Christian unity in the New Testament sense is spiritual harmony and voluntary cooperation for common ends by various groups of Christ’s people.  Cooperation is desirable between the various Christian denominations, when the end to be attained is itself justified, and when such cooperation involves no violation of conscience or compromise of loyalty to Christ and His Word as revealed in the New Testament."

    When it comes to the legalists and the Pharisaical crowd that promotes separation to the extent of mutual exclusion, finger pointing and self-glorification (i.e., "I am right with God and you are not, because you don’t believe the same as me."), maybe isolation isn’t that bad.  More people than not, I truly believe, think that working together for the greater good of the Kingdom is biblical.  Only a small minority of so-called "fundamentalists" within the Christian faith feel otherwise.  However, the problem is not so much that we believe that working together is good as long as there is no compromise, it’s getting us to actually DO it.  Let the "separatists" stay separate if they wish, but let the rest of us unite where possible to form a true Nation of Christians, the body of Christ.

    Say what you will about the "herd mentality," but it is the loners that the lions and wolves look for first.  There truly is strength in unity.

    Take a Fresh Look at Christianity Today

    Christianity Today magazine debuts its redesign in the October issue with new features and a bold, new look. The magazine has a new orientation with well-defined sections and a new color palette. Preview the new design at www.christianitytoday.com Editor-in-Chief David Neff says, “Redesign a magazine and you could disorient some readers. But we hope that the redesigned Christianity Today will quickly give the reader a better sense of orientation. We believe the magazine is easier to use and more thoughtful than ever.” Lead designer, Gary Gnidovic, says, “Although we’d been considering a redesign of Christianity Today for a couple of years, the beginning of 2009 felt like the right time to begin the process. Sometimes a publication’s design can evolve slowly, but periodically, because of changing editorial needs, or even cultural shifts, it is good to completely rethink how one is approaching the content structurally and visually. In CT’s 50-year history there have been only 5 or 6 complete redesigns. We hope that the reader will find this new CT to feel fresh and vital, and with a greater degree of orientation to the content.”

    Christian History

    "In the apology of Tertulian Christians are accused of everything opposite of what they represent. The actual reason of their indictment is the fact that they aren’t not agreeing with traditional beliefs. It is stated that they don’t agree with the gods and they represent all that is malevolent. All that is evil would be murder, hate, lust, envy, and adultery. These are the things that Christians preached against and abstained from. The real reason that they are faced with charges is because they’ve a different faith that nobody understands. It is a faith that does not consist of the same Gods. Christians believed in the resurrection of Christ and the belief in one God, instead of the belief in several different gods that have categorical purposes. The apology of Tertulian represents how folks fear what they do not understand, and how people are not extraordinarily accepting to change at first. Whenever there is a dramatic change that calls for folks to query ideology that they’ve been familiar with for years, people are resistant. The pioneers of change are almost always persecuted before the change begins. In this situation early followers of Christianity were the pioneers of change, although they weren’t attempting to convince or convince anyone in this actual reading. They were trying to stand for what they have a belief in even if threatened with death. Not many people in today’ society would be prepared to sacrifice their life for something they intensely believe in.

    Death and Martyrdom are mentioned in this reading in two different aspects. Death is first mentioned as a threat. It was a way of stopping a group from doing something that is not frequently accepted. The threat exists without proper knowledge of the particular group. The sole data is that they are dissimilar and their ideology conflict with convention. The main point is that folks worry that they do not understand. The Christians are automatically accused of being the most wicked creatures when the ideology are without delay opposing that which is cruel and evil.

    This is terribly like the persecution of Socrates, who is also mentioned in this reading. Socrates was accused of being a corrupter of the youth for projecting his ideology on all who became curious. He also talked down on workmen, poets, and officeholders. When you have a huge share of a population that you have irritated and you are in trial, your discussions carry less weight.

    The Christian pioneers embodied a positive nature at the time but were terribly misunderstood by many polytheistic believers. It is declared that those persecuting them did not even know how to pronounce their name in the correct way. This is comparable to modern day society accept roles have reversed and now Christians are persecuting those who they do not understand before even taking the opportunity to understand what faith is about. Over time scriptures in the bible have been altered and misinterpreted and what is meant to be the word of God is used to project hate on those who differ. Any faith that is not Christianity is frequently rejected by Christians because they suspect that believing what they believe is the only way to heaven, although they do not completely practice their religion.

    What you can learn from this reading is that before you make judgment on a group or an individual, or if you make a try to persecute somebody, you have to at least have a correct understanding of whom or what you are persecuting. Ignorance breeds hate and what most religions are making an attempt to accomplish is peace and kindness."
